Consultation Feedback
Your questions answered...
- Will we be closing cheney lane to traffic?
- In a short answer, Yes. A road closure will be in place from midday till 9pm but allowing access to residents and emergency services.
- If I have a complaint to raise, how do I do it?
- Use the channels of communication you have already been using. We will also have an appointed Person In Pink (In pink hivis) who will be available to listen to your feedback. But please consider what we ARE doing, and NOT what we DID do. We’ve learnt from what went wrong and ask you to focus on the positive changes that we have made to the arrangements for setting up and dismantling the event.
- Will the Funfair contractor use temporary roadway to move in and out of the park?
- In a short answer, yes. We are commited to the installation of 200 metres of Aluminium trackway for the sole use of the fairground.
- Will we be closing Morrell Avenue to traffic?
- In a short answer, Yes. Morrell Avenue will be closed on the Junction of Glebe Street to the junction with Cross Street, and will be in place from 4pm till 9pm but allowing access to residents and emergency services. However, whilst access is still available residents, you are reminded that there is no parking along the whole length of Morrell Avenue as the parking bays have been removed.
- Will we stop people double parking?
- Double parking is illegal in any city. We therefore remind everyone that the Council Parking Enforcement Team will be out in force during our event.
- Will the funfair not bring in unnecessary vehicles?
- We have asked ALL suppliers to be more conscious of what and how many vehicles they are bringing to the park this year so that unnecessary vehicles stay off the park.
- Can we explain the figures for charity money raised in our application?
- Of course. If you'd like to email us, FAO treasurer at oxford@roundtable.org.uk, we'll be able to answer questions you may have. However, in the last 3 years alone, the event has generated a surplus of over £150,000. Last year (2023) for example, the event generated £214,000 but cost £182,000 to put on.
- Why is Round Table Men Only?
- Round Table is open to men aged between 18 to 45. However, is part of a larger organisation that also has Ladies Circle, which is open to Women-Only, aged between 18 to 45. There is also 41-Club and Tangent, the progression club for Tablers' and Circlers' respectively for persons aged 41 and above. We share the same values at our core.
This is no different to other gender-specific / age-specific organisations etc. - How will Oxford City Council provide oversight of the event?
- Oxford City Council have overseen the entire process of the event application, which has included collating-and-providing feedback which we have developed into our new Event Plan. We are grateful for not only their time, but also their input and the desire to hold this event.
- Will you get rid of the bonfire?
- Yes, we have for this year.
- Is there an alternative venue for this display?
- We have looked into other venues in the city and the surrounding area. Venues that can hold this number of visitors safely AND that the vast majority of visitors can walk to, do not exist within the ringroad (or just outside).
